National Hairball Awareness Day is observed annually on the last Friday in April. This day is listed as one of the Pet Health Awareness Events of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
A hairball is a small collection of hair formed in the stomach of cats that is occasionally vomited up when it becomes too big. Though all cats get hairballs, those with long hair tend to get them more often. There are a few ways that you can prevent hairballs:
– Brush your cat. A brush will grip the loose fur and drag it out of the coat.
– Use hairball prevention products like gel products that are basically laxatives. Ask your veterinarian what would be the best hairball prevention product for your cat.
– Give your cat hairball prevention foods. Ask your veterinarian about what food would be a good option.
