Rescue Kitten Who Had Both Eyes Removed Is Learning What Love Means

Braille the kitten was rescued in Philadelphia last month when she was just a few weeks old. She was dropped off at the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia.. The kitten was in a very poor condition, she was covered in fleas and she had an upper respiratory infection so severe that affected both of her eyes.

Sara Konnecke, who works at ACCT Philadelphia, refused to give up on the poor kitten and together with her girlfriend, Erin Signor, decided to foster her and offer her all the medical attention that she needed.

“Her condition required us to put hot compresses, saline solution and tobramycin drops in her eyes every four hours, in addition to giving amoxicillin orally twice a day,” “It was painful and difficult for her to eat and breathe, and she was permanently shaky the first three or four days of care.” Signor told The Huffington Post.

The kitten needed bilateral enucleation surgery, or the removal of her eyes. She is fine now after the surgery thanks to the care and love of her foster moms. Even if she can’t see, her personality is shining bright.

“Once she is spayed and has fully recovered in a few months, she will technically be up for adoption but we fully intend on never letting her go,” the foster mom said. “She’s ours—for sure!”

Braille grew up and today she is a beautiful cat! She has hew own Facebook page where she writes: “I was found on death’s door, but luckily a nice woman brought me to the Philadelphia shelter (ACCT Philly)! I had an upper respiratory infection so bad that I couldn’t see and could barely eat. I was a little over five weeks old, but only weighed 0.70 pounds. Luckily, I was rescued by two amazing women who made me who I am today – a happy and loved little kitty! Now I live with my mommy and my sister, Lily!”
