Why Do Cats Sleep So Much?

Cats sleep an average of fifteen hours a day, and some sleep up to twenty hours in a twenty-four hour period!

The house cats are domesticated and they descend from the wild cats.

A wild cat is a predator who will hunt her prey by chasing it and this is making them to consume a lot of energy. They need energy to be able to get their food. This is the reason why they sleep so much, to save up the energy to hunt.

House cats don’t need to hunt, they have their human servants who give them everything that they like! Still, the instincts haven’t changed and they have the same genetic programming as wild cats.

But cats have a secret ability! When the sleep they are always on the alert! If they hear anything strange they are aware in just a few seconds and fully operational.
